I had a 10 year old perfectly healthy Pom die yesterday for no apparent reason. Louie was an inside dog and a wonderful pet. Yesterday I let him outside and he didn't come to the door to come back inside as he usually does. He always come and scratches on the door to get back in within about 30 minutes. My husband went to check on him and found him lying in the back yard dead. There were no apparent signs of him being bitten or any injuries to his body. The only thing was that there was some blood coming from his rectum. He hasn't acted unusual or anything. He came and woke me up yesterday as he always does wanting to go outside. I just am beside myself and can't imagine what happened. Do you think he could have been poisoned, or had a stroke, or heart attack? Our vet is closed and my husband buried him or I would have tried to get him to the vet for some answers.
Sincerely,
Heartbroken
I am sorry for your loss. that is really hard and shocking. the best
way to find out is an autopsy. The age is not that old, however a
stroke, heart attack, anurisiam could have happened. The blood from
the rectum could be a bacterial infection hemoragic enteritis. I had a
10 year schnauzer who up and died her autopsy showed she had
a ruptured blood vessel. Again I am very sorry for your loss.
